DriveSafe NT is a driver education, training and licensing program for Territory drivers aged 16 to 25 years available in Darwin, Alice Springs and Katherine. In partnership with DriveSafe NT Remote it will be available in Tennant Creek in the future.

In 2012 the Driver Training and Licensing (DTAL) program will be replaced by DriveSafe NT. Students currently enrolled in the DTAL program will continue through to completion of the DTAL program in accordance with the conditions in their logbook.
People aged 16 years or over can attend their local Motor Vehicle Registry office and attempt an MVR Theory test in order to qualify for a learner licence.
Approved Training Providers are Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) that deliver competency-based driver training programs for licensing purposes throughout the NT.
On completion of the Approved driver training program UCO007, the Approved Training Provider will issue a Statement of Attainment which is valid, and may be used for learner licence application, for up to 12 months from date of issue.
The DriveSafe NT Remote Indigenous Driver Education and Licensing program is a two year trial program developed in partnership between the Northern Territory Government, the National Road Safety Council, the Territory Insurance Office and the Commonwealth's Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs.
