Compulsory Safety Recall - Takata Airbags
In February 2018, the Australian Government announced a compulsory recall of vehicles with defective Takata airbags. These airbags can misdeploy causing death or serious injury.
As at the end of August 2018, about 1.8 million airbags still need replacing. The recall timetable is based on risk factors including age of the airbag and exposure to heat and humidity. The highest risk ‘alpha’ airbags must be replaced immediately.
If you receive a letter from your vehicle’s manufacturer or retailer asking you to have your airbag replaced, do not delay in booking your free replacement. Territory Drivers are also urged to check whether their vehicle is affected by visiting www.IsMyAirbagSafe.com.au.
A fact sheet about the recall is now available.
