Project Update - Roper and Wilton Crossing
Construction on the Roper and Wilton River Crossings is on track to finish in December this year.
The project, valued at $55 million, includes construction of two new bridges at the Roper River and Wilton River and is jointly funded by the Northern Territory and Australian Governments.
The Roper Highway is a critical link between Mataranka and a number of large communities including Ngukurr, Rittarangu and Numbulwar.
Each Wet Season, the existing low level crossings are prone to flooding, making the area impassable for up to 150 days a year.
When completed, these works will significantly reduce the number of road closures experienced during the wet season each year and improve access and safety for local communities and businesses in the area.
