State Square Underground Car Park
The contract for the 450 space, three level underground car park was awarded to local company Tomazos Group PTY LTD for $19.4 million and is anticipated to support 60 construction jobs and 165 jobs across the wider sector during construction.
The works aim to relocate all of the existing surface car parks underground, to allow further development of the State Square precinct, free up green space and reduce heat. The facility will house 450 car parks including public parking and have a dual role as a Cyclone Shelter with the ability to shelter 600 people.
By moving the existing car parking underground, more space will be created within the State Square precinct for landscaping, walkways, cycle paths, shade, cooling water features and relaxing/social areas.
