Tender Released to Upgrade Keep River Plains Road
The Northern Territory Government, in partnership with the Australian Government, has released a tender to upgrade the Keep River Plains Road.
Forming part of the Northern Australia Roads Program, the upgrade will deliver improved flood immunity as well as improved freight capacity and productivity.
The project tender calls for works to be delivered in two phases, with Stage 1 works delivering on the initial 13 kilometres from the WA border, toward Legune Station.
The Australian Government has committed $39.9 million to Stage 1 of the project and the Northern Territory Government has committed $17.5 million to both stages.
The works will include:
- realignment of Keep River Plains Road;
- sealing approximately 27 kilometres of the road;
- construction of a bridge across Keep River; and
- construction of a bridge across Sandy Creek.
These works will open up regional productivity and economic development through year-round road access, including the Major Project, Project Sea Dragon.
The anticipated award date for the tender is in May 2019, with works set to commence in July 2019 and is expected to support between 80 and 100 jobs. The project is scheduled to be completed in September 2020.
