Election signage and mobile roadside booths policies

The Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics (DIPL) has released two policies to inform parties, candidates and their representatives on the correct placement and removal of election signs and booths.

The placement of election signs and mobile booths on Northern Territory (NT) Government road reserves is an acceptable means for eligible voters to become familiar with election candidates.

However, the placement of signs and booths must not compromise motorists, cyclists and pedestrian safety and must be environmentally conscious.

The policies apply before and after the NT Legislative Assembly election on 22 August 2020.

Election signs, in accordance with the policy are permitted on Northern Territory Government road reserves from 11 July 2020.

The policies include information on:

  • sign and booth requirements
  • the permitted size
  • standards
  • display periods
  • permitted location and positions
  • installation means permitted
  • policy breaches and terms.
